Teacher Weekend Goals: Plans VS Reality

Teacher goals

We all love a good weekend – time to rest, recharge and relax. Perhaps we’ll also spend some time doing the stuff we couldn’t get done during the week. We might even have plans for the weekend – but as teachers often know, even the most thorough planning can fall flat when executed. Here are some weekend teacher goals that probably don’t go how you envisaged them.

Teacher Goal 1: Do some marking

Teacher Goals: A teacher marking exam papers.

Plan: Now, not necessarily one of those teacher goals but sometimes a necessary evil and something all teachers occasionally plan to do. Spend a couple of hours on a quiet Sunday afternoon just getting those books in order for the week ahead.

Reality: You loaded your books up into your ‘Really Useful Box’ and left them in the boot again, didn’t you? Go on, admit it.

Teacher Goal 2: Make some social plans

Teacher Goals: People dancing

Plan: The group chat has been buzzing all week – figuratively and literally. You’ve committed to a night out. You’re showered, dressed and you’re going to hop in a taxi and dance like no one’s watching.

Reality: The group chat has been buzzing all week – figuratively and literally. You’ve committed to a night out. You’re showered, dressed and you’ve fallen asleep on the sofa before you called a taxi. Everyone wonders where you are.

Teacher Goal 3: Have some restful sleep

Teacher Goals: A sleeping sloth

Plan: You’ve set aside at least one evening where you’re going to have some restful sleep. No caffeine for a good few hours before bed and definitely no devices. You’re going to do a little light reading, maybe pop the heating on and sleep for 8 to 10 hours. Bliss.

Reality: You fell asleep on the sofa on the night you’d made social plans. You wake up in the morning with a sore neck and an ache in your back. Oops.

Teacher Goal 4: Laundry

Teacher Goals: A cat watching a washing machine

Plan: Again, hard to call this one of those teacher goals but still necessary… You’re going to make it up to your friends you fell asleep on the night before by going out to brunch with them today – but you’re going to ensure that you get a load of washing done before. You load up the machine, pop it out to dry and when you’re home, you’re going to bring it in.

Reality: You do indeed make those brunch plans and you stick to them. You make sure you put some washing in before you leave, too. You do however, forget that it’s in there and forget it needs to go out to dry. When you arrive home (later than you planned) your clothes for the work week now smell a little damp and you need to start the wash cycle again…

Teacher Goal 5: Do some exercise

Teacher Goals: going for a run

Plan: You told yourself you’ll probably go for a run at the weekend – you’ve been putting it off. You pop your running gear on your dresser, ready to go. You’re gonna do this!

Reality: You told yourself you’ll probably go for a run at the weekend – you’ve been putting it off. You pop your running gear on your dresser, ready to go but the weather suggests there’s a chance of rain. No one wants to run in the rain. Back in the drawer until next weekend.
