People often ask me why I teach…
Meet Liam. He’s the student who shrugs when you ask him to contribute in class.
He’s apathy.

Meet Liam. He’s the student who swore in your face when you gave him a detention for his third missed homework in a row.

Meet Liam. He’s the student who didn’t come to the after-school session you arranged for him, despite being reminded three times to turn up.
He’s intervention.
Meet Liam. He’s the student whose parents never pick up your calls.
He’s parental contact.
Meet Liam. He’s the boy whose parents never check he has breakfast before he leaves for school.
He’s hunger.
Meet Liam. He’s the boy who tries to do his homework in the bedroom he shares with his drug-dealing older brother.
He’s social injustice.
Meet Liam. He’s the boy who has to wash his own uniform because his mum says she doesn’t have time.
He’s neglect.

He’s desperation.
